“we use food as a window to understand the world"
Everyday Food Stories is a platform that celebrates African food heritage while advocating for sustainable food systems and equitable access to healthy diets, using storytelling and multimedia content to inspire transformation and decolonize African food systems.
Vision:
To create a platform that celebrates African food heritage while advocating for sustainable food systems and equitable access to healthy diets, using storytelling and multimedia content to inspire transformation.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: To amplify these untold stories and spark action. By documenting and sharing the rich tapestry of East African food systems, we aim to bridge the gaps in awareness, inspire global audiences, and foster sustainable solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges—climate change, food insecurity, and cultural erasure.
Our Story
“there is a disconnect in information and inspiration
that Everyday Food Stories seeks to fill. “
In the bustling markets, quiet farms, and vibrant kitchens of East Africa, stories are waiting to be told—stories of resilience, innovation, and tradition. Yet, these narratives are often overlooked by mainstream media, leaving a void in how we understand food, sustainability, and cultural heritage in this region.
At Everyday Food Stories, we’re here to change that. We believe that behind every plate of food lies a journey—one that connects us to the hands that nurtured it, the land that sustained it, and the traditions that shaped it. Unfortunately, these vital threads are fading. Indigenous knowledge systems are disappearing, local food producers remain underrepresented, and the global food crisis looms larger every day.
But this is not just about preserving the past. It’s about creating a future where these voices matter—where East African farmers, food artisans, and indigenous communities are seen, heard, and celebrated.
Together, we can amplify essential voices, preserve invaluable knowledge, and reimagine the narrative around food, culture, and sustainability.
Everyday Food Stories exists because the world needs these stories—and because every bite tells a tale worth sharing.
"We bridge the gap between food producers and consumers through storytelling, community, and a vibrant marketplace.
By celebrating local food culture, hosting impactful events, and empowering our community to take action, we inspire pride, foster connections, and drive sustainable change."
